New on the site... my '93 500E tranny does not engage in reverse, but all 4 forward gears work great and very smooth. Came across Rusty's write-up on the repair of the B2 piston. It got me going since it seemes fairly simple to do. Then I realized that B2 might be for the forward gears.
The question is: does anyone know the reverse piston name and locations? and, like Rusty's write up about the B2 which can be removed without taking out the tranny, is a similar write-up out there for the reverse piston? Any help much appreciated. PC |

Bad news.Reverse went out in the wife's wagon. This is caused by the B3 band (I think). This isn't something you can fix DIY. Time for a new tranny or a fix on the old one.
Good luck, Todd |

This is from a Mitchell repair guide for 722.3 transmissions:
Reverse doesn't engage: Check plates and sealing rings on brake B-3 piston. Replace if necessary.
